A look at our week in Kindergarten...
Jesus Time
Jesus feeds five thousand- John 6:1-15. The miracle of 5 loaves of bread and 2 fishes providing enough food for 5,000 men plus women and children with 12 baskets of bread left over! Jesus recognized the needs of the people and met those needs through a miracle. Fundations We are back to reviewing the correct way to write upper and lower case letters. We will also work on the letter sounds and tapping out words (tap a finger for each sound heard in the word). Language Arts Big book of the week is "The Birthday Pet". We will focus on retelling and sequencing the book. We will also use the pictures to discover how Danny is feeling during the book. The students will practice verbalizing HOW they know Danny's feelings from the pictures. |
Math
Unit 10 is all about combining sets and grasping a firm understanding of number facts to 10. We will use a variety of tools to help with this concept: number bonds, 2 sided counters; dominoes and dice- to name a few. At home you can use a deck of cards. Use only numbers 1-9. Have your child use the cards and show ways to make a number. EX: "show me ways to make a 5." Your child could show 4 and 1 and 2 and 3. Social Studies or Science Animals and their habitats is the focus for the next 2 weeks. We will look at, read and write about different animals and their habitats and how those habitats work for each animal. On 3/20 your child will be the teacher for his/her animal. They will read their report and share about their shoe box habitat project for classmates, preschoolers and parents. STEAM Wednesdays: STEAM for the rest of the school year will focus on the 5 senses. March focuses on the sense of hearing. The stations for the month will be: guess the sound; sign language and musical instruments. |
